Gratitude

Posted on 30. Jun, 2010 by Vene in bubbly topic

I remember i have read this from one of the article in year 2008 , which i can’t remember which article was it … so i will just try to analyze it with my own  words~ (with my own broken england…hope you don’t mind yea…coz im lazy to type it in chinese :)    )

*Feeling of Gratitude ~

*Always remember where you come from ~

The two sentences above look simple…and it was formed with simple words. But how many of us that actually understand the meaning behind it?

Or how many of us that actually apply this to their daily life?

I don’t think so many of us are doing it ~ :)

Okay, Let’s try this. (i learned it from another article that i have read recently)

Let’s take out a piece of paper and a pen right now.

And, make a list of 25 things that you think you need in order to be totally happy.

Just write freely whatever you want (because there is no one going to read your list of wish …don’t worry)

………… done?

Okay, from the article that i have read, the author was saying that there are some things that people will put in their list….let’s check it out if you have one of those in your list or most of those in your list ?

One million dollars
One billion dollars
A six-month cruise around the world
To be President of the United States
A Porsche
The perfect marriage
To be famous
To have my own TV show – <i have this in my life now , blek >
Healthy children
Parents that get along
A mansion
My own private jet

To me, i think i will add in things like :

- to have a very very rich and handsome and loyal husband

- to be very pretty and tall

etc.

All of the above sound good right?

But now, the author asks – will these acquisition make you happy ? for sure?

But these are the things that you need to achieve and apparently they are not exist in your life yet. Therefore, the author says this :

“That depends on what happiness means to you. I think this is a good time to define our subject: Happiness means taking pleasure in what you have.

You’re certainly not going to be happy about the things you don’t have. Happiness is when you walk outside on a beautiful summer day, look around and suddenly feel a rush of pleasure. Or when you come home from work and your child runs to greet you at the door.

When you sit down to a great meal at a fancy restaurant you definitely feel good. That’s because you’re happy –- you’re enjoying what you have.”

The author claims that human being are often focusing on what they don’t have but not what they already have in their backyard. Of course, he was not trying to ask us not to strive for what we want for our life but meantime, we should be happy of what we already have in our backyard.

“Strive for all you want, also take pleasure in what’s in your backyard already.”

TRUE TRUE TRUE! it sounds meaningful to me :)

Look at the list now, and see how many of them that already existing in your life now?that you actually have them now?

now, the next assignment from the author would be this ;

Want I want you to see is that you already have many wonderful blessings. It’s enriching and productive to notice them.

Therefore, I want you to make another list. This time, write down 25 of the greatest blessings you currently have in your life.

These are some of the things people commonly put on their lists:

I have hands
I have feet
I have eyes
I have ears
My parents are alive
One of my parents is alive
I am alive
I have children
I have a good friend
I own my house
I love my wife or husband
My wife or husband loves me
I learn something new every day
I know how to read and write
I live in America, Canada, etc.

So, do you feel that your life is good right now?

Guess what, i have actually did that when i started reading a book in year 2008. But this action was only last for a few months. Eventually i have totally forgot everything about “gratitude”.

What i did ?

Well, if you do practice in writing diary like i do , you can try this as well.

always end your diary with writing a short note / p.s ~

Like what i did was ….after a long write about what i have been through for the day , i will try to recall one or two small little single thing that had happened to me on that day. and i will write it down at the end of my diary like this ….

“…………

p.s: I had a very delicious korean cuisine with my colleague today, it was really delicious and it made my day ^^

the next day ….

“……..

p.s: my bf picked up the laundry for me today ……hahahahha!

“…..

p.s: I saw a table of food that cooked by mommy when i was starving after a terrible jam from work. Suddenly feels good in staying with my family….haha!

In fact, i couldn’t remember a thing that i wrote in my p.s note inside my 2008 diary. (that diary is sitting inside my cupboard right now…too lazy to look at it and tell you what i have wrote)

But i realized that i had listed down more and more ‘happy moments’ in my diary from day to day.Even though they are some simple simple simple very simple thing that had happened. Some simple thing that you might even forget immediately once it had happened.

And guess what, my mood was really really good during that period ~ the period of feeling “gratitude ” towards everything.

I would say this in chinese :

凡事并不是必然的。

Do not take things for granted or always think that “it is suppose to be like that”.,….

for example, 妈妈煮饭给你吃并不是必然的。。。所以,当它发生在你面前的时候,你就会感觉特别的感激与开心。。。。

Anyway, the only message that i would like to deliver in this post is …..

the feeling of GRATITUDE!

try to recall one small little single happy thing that had happen to you today….. it will make your day ^ ^

< I don’t care…but i just want to be and feel happy >

< always remember where i come from >
